European Elections Introduction

    • If you are an EU national living in another EU country (In this case, the 28 EU member states) and want to participate in European Parliament elections, you are entitled to vote or stand as a candidate in your host country.
    • Alternatively, in most cases, you can also choose to vote for home country candidates, stand as a candidate there: national rules apply.
    • You may not do both in the same European Parliament elections.
    • Next European Election 2024
    • At the next European election, as a European Union citizen and a resident here, you may express your vote in Milan for members of the European Parliament belonging to the Italian allocation of seats by submitting the application form (TBD link).
Who can vote?

Citizens who:

  • Live in Milan
  • Are registered voters in the city
  • Are nationals of another EU Member State
  • Are entitled to full rights, both in his/her country of origin and in Italy.

How to Register?

The application form must be submitted in person before xx/xx/xxxx to the Electoral Office in Via Messina 52, 20154 Milan, Tel 02.8846515402.88465158, mailed to the same address or faxed to 02.8844202202.884.65164, or sent by email to the address: DSC.ElettoraleAire@comune.milano.it, with a copy of valid ID attached.

Besides his/her full name, place and date of birth, the person shall fill in the form and state:

  • His/her will to exercise his/her right to vote only in Italy
  • Nationality
  • Full address in Italy and his/her Member State of origin
  • That there is no Court order against him/her depriving him/her of the right to vote in his/her Member State of origin

Registration is free and remains valid until a cancellation request, or until the person loses the registration requirements (for example, for emigration to another municipality or abroad).

How to Vote?

The successful applicant will be included in the additional electoral roll and will receive a personal electoral card allowing him/her to vote at the polling station stated on the card. If included in the additional electoral roll, the European Union citizen may express the vote for members of the European Parliament belonging to the Italian allocation of seats only and not for members of the European Parliament belonging to the Member State of origin’s share of seats: in fact, it is forbidden to vote twice.

Where to vote?

The polling station is stated on the personal electoral card.
For further information,  please contact the Electoral office – opening hours:
Monday through Friday 9:00 - 12.00 PM and  2:30 – 3:30 PM
